4 Smartphone Apps to Support Your Heart Health

Smartphones give us access to a seemingly endless array of health-related apps that can support our goals. And as smartphone technology (very quickly) progresses, the phones themselves even come with built-in heart health features that make it seem like there’s a cardiologist in your back pocket — literally — at all times.

You can quickly check-in on your daily step count, or get an estimation of calories burned, or measure your approximate heart rate.

These built-in features combined with the support of smartphone apps can’t replace your annual exam with your board-certified cardiologist, but they can help you keep a close eye on your heart health in between check-ups and exams.

Here are our 4 favorite smartphone apps to support your own heart health, or to be a resource for those around you.

FibriCheck

Fibri app on iphone

Cost: Free; offers in-app purchases

What it Does:  FibriCheck allows you to check your current heart rate in just 60 seconds, using only your smartphone. The app is medically certified, which means you can also accurately track your numbers and symptoms—both of which are great features for staying on top of your heart health on your own between scheduled appointments with your cardiologist.

You can even open up the app to discuss your tracked information with your cardiologist, making it easier to identify possible areas of concern or improvements to your heart health.

Rating:  FibriCheck is rated #47 in the Medical app category.

In case of emergency…

In the event of a heart-related emergency, you should always immediately call 911 before consulting a mobile app for support.

If the situation allows, you can utilize a helpful app like one of the options listed above to support whoever is experiencing the heart-related emergency while you wait for an ambulance to arrive.
